Reddit is introducing a new “community muting” feature to give users more control over what they see and don’t see on the platform.

The new feature will be available on Reddit’s mobile apps in the coming weeks. Reddit intends to add the feature to its desktop platform in the coming months.

You can use the new feature to mute an entire community, which will remove posts from that community from your notifications, Home feed, and Popular feed.

Users must be able to muffle up to 1,000 communities. Reddit points out that muting a community does not prevent you from visiting or participating in it, as you can still view, post, and comment in communities you have muted.

You can unmute a community at any time in your Settings, where you can also manage community notifications and other preferences.

After bringing the feature to desktop in the future, Reddit says it plans to incorporate muting into other feeds, such as the All and Discover pages. Muting, according to the company, is part of a larger effort to give users more control over their Reddit experience.

There are three methods for muting a community. You can do so via your settings, the three dots menu in the top right corner of a community page, or the three dots menu in the top right corner of your Popular and Home feeds.

According to the company, while muting allows users to create a more curated experience, it is not a substitute for reporting content that violates its policies.

The new feature is a welcome addition to the platform, as it will allow users to filter out content from their popular and home feeds that they do not want to see.
