Instagram’s status update feature, known as Notes, is set to become more prominent on the app. Previously, Notes were only visible within Instagram’s inbox, but soon they will also be visible directly on users’ profiles.

This change aims to increase the visibility of the feature and provide users with a new way to interact with their friends’ updates. In December, Instagram added reply functionality to Notes, further enhancing the interactive nature of the feature.

Instagram is also experimenting with “prompts” for Notes, which will enable users to share questions for their friends to answer in their updates. This feature is similar to the collaborative “add yours” templates for Stories.

By introducing prompts, Instagram aims to encourage more engagement and conversation among users through their Notes. These updates, like Stories, are temporary and only last for 24 hours.

However, they are only visible to mutual followers, making them more private and intended for smaller, curated groups of friends.

These latest updates from Instagram demonstrate how Meta, the parent company, has utilized the Notes feature to incentivize users to post more frequently for specific groups of friends.

Instagram aims to foster closer connections and interactions among users by creating a more intimate and private space for updates. This approach aligns with Meta’s broader strategy of creating meaningful social experiences within their platforms.

Additionally, Instagram is introducing a new feature called “Cutouts.” This feature allows users to create stickers from objects within their photos, similar to the sticker feature on iOS.

These stickers can be shared in Stories or Reels, providing users with creative ways to personalize their content. Furthermore, users can also create cutouts from other users’ public posts, offering a new way to remix and share content from others.

It’s worth noting that Instagram’s help page acknowledges that users have the option to disable the cutouts feature if they prefer their content not to be reused by others. This gives users control over how their content is shared and reused within the platform.
