If Half-Life: Alyx piqued your interest in its seminal 2004 predecessor, you can now do so in virtual reality. Half-Life 2: VR Mod was released on Friday by the Source VR Mod Team, a group of fans.
You can download and play the mod for free through Steam as long as you own the original.

The mod, which is currently in public beta, allows you to play through Half-Life 2’s single-player story from beginning to end. To modernize the experience and make it playable in VR, the Source VR Mod Team incorporated a number of Half-Life: Alyx features.
For example, switching between weapons employs the same selection grid found in Valve’s 2020 game.
Other VR-friendly additions include optional laser sights, over-the-shoulder ammo storage, manual reloading, and two-handed weapon handling. There is even support for movement on a room-scale.
According to the Source VR Mod Team, the project isn’t finished, but that hasn’t stopped people from enjoying the experience, with the mod currently holding an Overwhelmingly Positive rating based on 732 reviews.

Half-Life 2: VR Mod, like Black Mesa before it, has been a long time coming. According to Eurogamer, the project was first announced in 2017 and then went through development hell before resurfacing in 2021.
You can play it now because of a recent influx of new team members who “revitalized” development.
