Months after Apple opened the App Store to game-streaming apps, the iPhone is set to welcome its first official game streaming app. Retro gaming platform Antstream will be available on iOS starting June 27. This announcement was first reported by Cult of Mac.

Antstream Arcade boasts a library of over 1,300 retro games from classic platforms such as Atari consoles, Commodore 64, DOS, and arcade systems.

While it also includes a few PS1 titles, its offerings tend to lean more towards niche games like ‘Hogs of War’ rather than mainstream hits like ‘Metal Gear Solid’. Interested users can browse Antstream’s current library to see the available games.

Although Apple cited developer feedback as a reason for relaxing its rules, the European Union’s Digital Markets Act (DMA) likely played a significant role.

The DMA, which aims to boost competition and curb consumer-hostile practices in big tech, came into effect in 2023.

Earlier this year, Apple announced that it would allow developers to submit single apps that could stream entire libraries of games—a notable shift from its previous stance.

Typically, Antstream costs $5 per month or $40 annually. However, Cult of Mac reports that it will launch with an introductory offer of $4 per month or $30 for a year.

Before deciding to subscribe, potential users can visit the company’s website to evaluate whether the service meets their gaming needs.
