Sony’s PlayStation Tournaments are finally available on the PS5, and the biggest improvement may simply be a higher chance of participating in an event.

The eSports-for-everyone feature now focuses on shorter tournaments at regular intervals, making it easier to find a competition that fits your schedule.

Sony will even design multiple brackets to keep the duration under control. You can also sign up directly from your console, eliminating the need to switch to another device.

The new PlayStation Tournaments system also features a redesigned interface that uses PS5 activity cards and notifications to help you find events, track (automatically updated) results, and notify you when it’s time to play.

Competitions can be found in the game’s home screen sections. If you want to do more than just compete, a Discord community hub offers chat as well as hosted interviews and game sessions.

Anyone with a PlayStation Plus membership in an eligible country can participate, with the first PS5 tournaments focusing on FIFA 23, Guilty Gear Strive, and NBA 2K23. Prizes include everything from in-game currency to cash, PlayStation hardware, and “experiences.”

If you know you can win real-world prizes, you might be more likely to buy the latest sports game. Nonetheless, the PS5 expansion may be beneficial by making eSports more accessible to current-generation console owners.
