Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar, Zynga, and 2K, is closing Playdots, the New York-based studio behind the popular mobile game Two Dots, according to Bloomberg. The company confirmed to Bloomberg that 65 employees will be laid off.
The puzzle game “will continue at another Zynga studio and there will be no disruption of service,” according to the company. It went on to say that “everyone affected by this decision will be able to apply for other jobs at Zynga.”
Take-Two paid $192 million for Playdots in 2020 and specifically mentioned Two Dots in its Q1 2022 earnings report, stating that it was “among the largest contributors to… net revenue.”
While it may appear strange to eliminate the game’s studio, some reorganization was probably unavoidable in the aftermath of its $12.7 billion Zynga acquisition.
