Polestar’s first electric SUV will be officially unveiled on October 12th, with a slew of premium features, according to the Swedish company.

The Polestar 3 will be launched with premium features such as air suspension, active dampers, and torque vectoring, competing with SUV EVs such as the Mercedes-Benz EQS, Rivian R1S, and Tesla Model X.

It, like those models, will be built in the United States at Volvo’s factory in Charleston, South Carolina.

The company, which is co-owned by Volvo and Chinese parent Geely, has revealed a lot about the Polestar 3. This includes a new back view that shows taillights that are similar (but upside down) to the Polestar 2. Polestar first revealed the design from the side in June (below).

The Polestar 3 will have a dual-motor powertrain with electric torque vectoring via a dual clutch system on the rear motor, similar to the Polestar 2.

As standard, an adaptive dual-chamber air suspension and active dampers will control the ride, allowing drivers to switch between comfort and firm suspension dynamics. Polestar claims that the dampers will adjust to road conditions “once every two milliseconds.”

Previously, the company stated that it aims for a range of 372 miles on the European WLTP cycle (so considerably less in EPA terms).

It will also include a semi-autonomous driving system for highway driving, powered by NVIDIA technology and a lidar sensor — Volvo is expected to use similar technology on its next-generation EX90 SUV, which will go on sale on November 9th.

At launch, the Polestar 3 is expected to cost between $75,000 and $111,000, according to rumors.
