The 2022-23 NBA season is quickly approaching, and the league is gaining an early advantage with a redesign of its iOS and Android apps. The new version emphasizes vertical videos, which fits in perfectly with the modern age of social media.

For starters, it takes a page from TikTok’s playbook with a vertically scrolling For You feed that will feature real-time highlights from ongoing games.

The page will be personalized using Microsoft Azure and Azure AI (Microsoft is the NBA’s cloud and AI partner) and will include suggested content based on fan preferences.

In addition, the NBA League Pass and NBA TV subscription services have been integrated into the app. NBA League Pass members will have access to live streams of out-of-market games with higher video quality and lower streaming latency, according to the company.

Subscribers will be able to watch games from different camera angles, try betting-focused versions of streams, and experiment with analytics-driven options. There will also be commentary feeds in Spanish, Portuguese, and Korean.

Along with the app’s relaunch, the NBA has reduced the cost of League Pass subscriptions for a limited time. The standard package is currently $15 per month or $100 for the season, and the premium package is $20 per month or $130 for the entire season. Access to NBA TV is included in the package.

The app will also include streams from pre- and post-game press conferences and media days, teams’ pregame shows for League Pass games, and a show about NBA culture and lifestyle. There will also be weekly highlights and betting shows. International pre-season games in Japan and Abu Dhabi will also be broadcast live on the app.

You’ll have access to several docuseries, including Gold Blooded, a seven-episode series about the Golden State Warriors’ run to the 2022 championship. The first episode is now available on the app.

Pass The Rock, which will premiere in late November, will provide insight into the NBA’s hottest new stars, both on and off the court. Archival content will also be available, including documentaries, 500 classic games, and every Finals game since 2000.

In addition, the league is launching a free membership program called NBA ID, which can be linked to an NBA League Pass subscription. NBA ID will provide benefits and rewards such as original content and content from the league’s vault.

Members will also have access to exclusive NBA partner experiences, ticket deals, NBA Pick’Em fantasy game prizes, and more.
