Gamers who have yet to purchase the PS5 may have to pay more when they do. Sony Interactive Entertainment has raised the price of the PlayStation 4 console in certain markets due to “challenging economic conditions,” according to president and CEO Jim Ryan on the PlayStation blog.

He explained that the company was forced to make the difficult decision due to high global inflation rates and currency fluctuations. PlayStation fans in the United States can relax for the time being; there will be no price increases in the United States.
Ryan said Sony is increasing the recommended retail price for the console in Canada, Mexico, Europe, the UK, Middle East, Africa (EMEA), Latin America, China and Australia. In Japan, the new prices will take effect on September 15th.
Both the disc and the digital versions will cost €50 more than their launch prices (€500 and €300, respectively) in Europe and £30 more than their original prices (£450 and £360) in the UK. The consoles will cost around ¥10,500 more in Japan, as well, where they originally sold for ¥49,980 and ¥39,980.
Ryan concluded that the price increase is necessary “given the current global economic environment.” He did, however, promise that Sony’s top priority will continue to be increasing PS5 supply so that more people can get it.
In May, the company announced that it will finally be able to ramp up console production, though it also stated that its efforts may not be sufficient to meet the console’s high demand until next year.

The new prices for the PS5 in select markets are listed below. It should be noted that parts of EMEA, Latin America, and Asia-Pacific will also be affected, and Sony advises customers to check with local retailers for details.
