The first footage from HBO’s upcoming live-action adaptation of The Last of Us has been released. We see about 20 seconds of Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie in a trailer the streamer posted on YouTube before the premiere of House of the Dragon.

Despite its short length, the clip is packed with memorable moments. An exchange between Joel and Ellie is directly lifted from the original game. Joel’s biological daughter appears in a flashback. The footage also shows Nick Offerman in character as Bill.
The series’ expectations are already sky-high. Craig Mazin of Chernobyl fame, as well as the game’s original creative director, Neil Druckmann, are involved in the project as writer, creator, and executive producer, in addition to a star-studded cast.
The show is set to premiere in early 2023. The first season will consist of ten episodes.
