As a result, affected vehicles will receive an over-the-air software update by “the end of June at the latest,” according to the company’s statement.

All of the vehicles in question appear to have been manufactured in the first four months of 2022, with final destinations in the United States, France, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
This is not the first time BMW has delivered cars lacking non-essential features to avoid shipping delays. Due to a global chip shortage, the company removed touchscreen features from some vehicles last fall.
And BMW is far from alone in taking this approach. Tesla decided to ship some cars without USB ports last fall, around the same time BMW was dealing with the touchscreen issue. Ford then shipped some Explorer SUVs without rear climate controls earlier this year.

It could be worse in the case of BMW’s lack of Android Auto and CarPlay support. When Mercedes-Benz faced a similar dilemma, it chose not to include the necessary chips in some vehicles, forcing customers to bring their cars into a ship to have them installed later, according to Automotive News Europe.
