How does a pro bicycle manufacturer like Raleigh stay afloat in an increasingly crowded e-bike market? Apparently, by promising more oomph. The company has improved the power and range of its popular Motus hybrid e-bike line.
The base Motus now comes with a 400WH Bosch Active Line motor (up from 300WH) and a range increase from 60 miles to 80 miles.
You shouldn’t have as much difficulty powering up a hill or completing a long commute. There will also be four levels of electric assistance, a seven-speed transmission, and hydraulic disc brakes.
Of course, more demanding riders have more options. The Motus Tour and Motus Grand Tour both have a derailleur or hub gearing option, as well as integrated front and rear lights and a wheel lock.
The Tour and Grand Tour both have sleeker, easily removable Bosch PowerTube batteries, while the Grand Tour includes a larger 500WH battery as well as a more powerful Active Line Plus motor. Raleigh claims a range of up to 100 miles.
In the United Kingdom and Ireland, all of the bikes are available with either a crossbar frame or an easier-to-mount low step design. However, expect higher prices in exchange for improved performance.
The ‘entry’ Motus costs £2,199 (approximately $2,987), the Motus Tour costs £2,499 (approximately $2,987), and the Grand Tour costs £2,699. The hub versions of the Tour and Grand Tour cost an extra £100.

They’re a little more expensive than the models they replace (the previous Motus started at £1,900), but the extra money could easily be worth it if your bike is your primary mode of transportation, because it will help you save a lot of cash.
