Dying Light 2 will finally be released on February 4th, after numerous delays. If you haven’t yet purchased a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S, developer Techland has made it simple to decide whether to buy the game now or later.

According to Eurogamer, the studio announced this week that those who purchase Dying Light 2 on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One will receive free current-gen upgrades.
This means that you’ll be able to play the game with improved graphics at a later date. Dying Light 2 will ship with multiple rendering modes, similar to many recent PS5 and Xbox Series X/S releases, allowing you to configure the game to prioritize either graphical fidelity or better performance.
Players who want the best graphics can switch between “Quality” and “Resolution” modes. As the name suggests, the latter will attempt to render the game in 4K resolution. The Quality mode, which adds raytracing to the experience, is less obvious.
If you just want a smooth framerate, the included “Performance” mode will run Dying Light 2 at 60 frames per second or higher. In the video above, you can see the various modes in action.

The announcement comes the same week that Techland announced the cloud version of Dying Light II for Switch would be delayed by up to six months.
The studio stated that it decided to postpone the release date in order to provide Nintendo fans with the best possible experience.
