BlackBerry, the former king of mobile phones has announced that classic devices running BlackBerry OS 7.1 or earlier, as well as OS 10, will lose key services as of January 4th.

And when we say “key,” we mean absolutely critical capabilities such as phone calls, texting, data, and even emergency 9-1-1 access.

According to Liliputing, you can also expect problems with Wi-Fi and apps like BlackBerry World and Desktop Manager. The PlayBook, the company’s ill-fated tablet, will also be discontinued on January 4th.

We really don’t think this will come as a surprise to anyone considering the fact that BlackBerry’s app store and popular Messenger (BBM) service were both shut down in 2019. There was no turning back from that.

As you may have known, the company was far too late to respond to the threat posed by the iPhone, and it did not fare well with Android as well.
