Amazon has postponed its plan to incorporate Comixology purchases as well as the platform itself into its larger ecosystem.

According to a FAQ posted this week by the company, the updated Comixology app, which is expected to bring a slew of changes to how the service works, will arrive in early 2022, rather than 2021 as previously announced.

“We wanted to take just a little extra time to incorporate the feedback we received from our community. With this goal in mind, we decided to hold launch until early next year,” the company says in the document.

The new Comixology app, according to Amazon, includes improvements to filtering and sorting. It also guarantees faster and more dependable downloads. The catch is that you must have an Amazon account in order to use the app at all.

Furthermore, once the company releases the updated software, the current Comixology app will no longer function after a grace period.

The app’s most significant change, however, is already live as of this week. To read purchases made through the platform, you no longer need the Comixology app.

Instead, they can be accessed via the Kindle app. All of this points to a future in which Comixology may cease to exist within the next few years.
