Tesla’s Supercharger stations usually do not allow competing electric cars to charge, but European chargers may be different this time. Currently, Electrek and Nextmove and other Supercharger V3 stations in Europe are allowing EV users with non-Tesla EVs (like the VW ID.3 and Hyundai Kona Electric) charge for free.

V3 outlets in Europe use the CCS charging standard and are supposed to limit top-ups to Tesla cars through a software “handshake,” but that apparently isn’t happening anymore as the branding is widening out.
What happens originally is that the software performs a handshake that links the charge to a driver’s Tesla account, these drivers aren’t paying for their top-ups. But It’s not immediately clear whether this affects all stations or not.
The brand has in the past welcomed the possibility of allowing Supercharger access to non-Tesla vehicles, but that was to be possible only if they can agree on costs. Ravzgadget hasn’t learned of any agreement as yet.
According to Electrek, this could easily be a bug or some other flaw. Tesla allows free Supercharger use as a perk for some of its buyers, and may not be happy that someone with a competing EV car could not only recharge at its stations without permission but avoid paying for it.

We aren’t sure how long this generosity will last, and we aren’t going to be shocked if Tesla rushes to block freebies in the near future.
