This year’s Google Fall Hardware Event promises to be something special. It will not only be the official launch of the Pixel 7, but also the Pixel Watch, the company’s first self-branded smartwatch.
But what exactly will those devices bring to the table? Will there be any additional surprises? We’re here to tell you what to expect when Google’s broadcast kicks off on October 6th.
The main focus of the presentation will most likely be Google’s latest phones, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. The Pixel 6 line will largely iterate, according to an official preview at this spring’s I/O conference.

The design will be updated but familiar, with a seamless aluminum frame that extends to the camera bar. A new Tensor G2 chip will also be available, promising improved performance for media, speech recognition, and other tasks.
They’ll be running Android 13. The standard Pixel 6 will have two rear cameras, while the Pro will have a third.
But what kind of performance boosts can you anticipate? Subtle ones, it appears. According to prototype leaks, the standard Pixel 7 will have 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, just like its predecessor.
A number of pre-release leaks also suggest that the Tensor G2 isn’t a huge step forward, with minor improvements to graphics, power efficiency, and clock speeds. Similarly, Kuba Wojciechowski, the developer, claims that the cameras will remain largely unchanged.
There may be little reason to upgrade from a Pixel 6, though if you’re coming from a Pixel 5 or earlier, this year’s phone may be worth the investment.
The biggest news may be what remains constant: the price. According to Android Police founder Artem Russakovskii, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will start at the same $599 and $899 prices as last year’s phones.
If the report is correct, they will represent excellent value for money, especially at a time when many device prices are rising.
It’s unclear when the Pixel 7 lineup will be available to customers. Pre-orders will begin on the day of the event, but Google has not yet stated when the phone will be available.
However, WinFuture’s Roland Quant has heard that the devices will begin shipping on October 18th, so you may only have to wait a couple of weeks.
The Pixel Watch, however, will be the highlight for many. It’s Google’s first official smartwatch, and it’ll be used to showcase Wear OS 3. Fitbit integration will be tight, with fitness, sleep, and general health tracking included.
With an upscale-looking case, a prominent crown, and easily swappable (if proprietary) bands, the company is taking design cues from the Apple Watch, but it uses a circular display like many other Wear OS devices.
Google hasn’t revealed much about what’s inside, but a prototype found in a restaurant suggests heart rate, blood oxygen, and ECG monitoring similar to the Fitbit Charge 5. We wouldn’t be surprised if Wallet had tap-to-pay functionality.
According to 9to5Google, the Pixel Watch may use a stock Samsung Exynos chip rather than a custom Tensor part, but it will have a large 2GB of RAM (the Galaxy Watch has ‘just’ 1.5GB), 32GB of storage, and a coprocessor that monitors battery life.
Emulator code also indicates the arrival of Google’s next-generation Assistant on Wear OS watches, though it’s unclear how the AI assistant will evolve on your wrist.
Pre-orders for the Pixel Watch, like those for the phones, are expected to begin on October 6th. It’s unclear whether the hardware will be available at the same time as the Pixel 7, and established leaker Yogesh Brar has warned of a possible “limited release” (that is, only in a few countries).
You may also have to pay a premium in comparison to other options. According to a 9to5Google price leak, the starting price is $350, with a cellular version costing $400 more. That’s more than the $280 Galaxy Watch 5 and not far behind the $399 Apple Watch Series 8.
The Pixel is clearly positioned as Android’s answer to the Apple Watch, and its price may reflect this.
