The latest version of the company’s mobile operating system is now available, but Apple Pay Later is nowhere to be found.
According to a footnote on Apple’s website, the feature will be available “in a future update.” Other previously announced iOS 16 features that aren’t yet available are listed as coming “later this year,” according to Gurman.
Gurman believes the discrepancy is due to Apple not knowing when Pay Later will be ready, and that the feature may not be available until iOS 16.4 is released in 2023. “I’m hearing there have been fairly significant technical and engineering challenges in rolling out the service, which has resulted in delays,” he says.
It’s interesting to learn that Apple is having technical difficulties implementing a Pay Later service. According to Gurman’s previous reporting, the company has been working on a feature like this for more than a year.
