LG has unveiled its first bendable OLED TV, which can function as a flat or curved display. The LG OLED Flex (model LX3) is a 42-inch OLED TV with LG’s latest display technology that bends into a curved (900R) TV.

Curved displays are better suited for immersive gaming, whereas flat screens are better suited for watching TV broadcasts or streaming services.

Using a dedicated button on the TV remote, LG OLED Flex owners can automatically bend and adjust the TV into its curved mode. (As opposed to some morphing monitors, which require manual adjustment.)

There are two presets, or owners can adjust the display curve in 5% increments through 20 different levels.

LG is targeting gamers with its 42-inch bendable display, thanks to a slew of features that console and PC gamers will appreciate. The LX3 supports 4K 120Hz Dolby Vision gaming and includes all of the latest HDMI 2.1 features such as variable refresh rate (VRR) and auto low latency mode (ALLM).

LG also supports Nvidia’s G-Sync and AMD’s FreeSync technologies to reduce tearing and stuttering while playing games. This TV appears to be a giant monitor, and it even has a height-adjustable stand that allows you to tilt the display towards or away from you.

If you don’t want to play certain games at the full size of the TV, there are also gaming modes that allow you to shrink the 42-inch display down to 32- or 27-inch sizes. LG also includes a built-in game app with custom screensavers and Twitch and YouTube shortcuts.

Gamers can also use LG’s Multi View mode to simultaneously view content from two different sources. So, you could use the LG Flex to play a PC or console game while simultaneously watching a YouTube video streamed to the TV from a phone.

LG was among the first to introduce a truly bendable OLED television. Corsair recently unveiled its 45-inch bendable gaming monitor, and Skyworth, a Chinese TV manufacturer, unveiled its own flexible transforming TV last year.

If you can’t decide between a flat or curved monitor or TV, manufacturers are clearly planning TVs and monitors that can operate in both modes.
