CD Projekt Red has released another game in its The Witcher series. Gwent: Rogue Mage is billed as a single-player expansion for Gwent, but it is sold separately. It is now available for $10 on PC, iOS, and Android. A $20 premium edition includes Gwent perks.

Rogue Mage was first announced earlier this year as Project Golden Nekker. It takes place hundreds of years before the birth of Geralt of Rivia, the protagonist of The Witcher. You’ll take on the role of the mage Alzur, who is attempting to create the first witcher to protect humanity from a horde of monsters.

Don’t go into it expecting a ton of details that will play into the next mainline Witcher game, though. “While we have a story to tell about Alzur’s obsession to create the first witcher, we do not treat this expansion as an official addition to The Witcher lore,” game director Vladimir Tortsov told IGN.

“We hope that players will get enough immersion to complement the gameplay-first formula, but we do not expect the story to be the main reason for players to appreciate this release.”

Tortsov estimates that it will take players more than 30 hours to complete and discover everything in Rogue Mage, which is designed for one-hour gameplay sessions. The game can be played entirely offline, though online features such as leaderboards and cross-saves allow you to pick up where you left off on other devices.

The original Gwent was released by CDPR in 2016. It’s a free-to-play multiplayer title based on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s minigame. Rogue Mage isn’t the first single-player Gwent game. CDPR previously released Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, a single-player campaign.
