Tesla is responding quickly to the NHTSA’s investigation into in-dash gaming while cars are moving. According to The Guardian, the company will release an update that will disable on-the-go Passenger Play.
According to a regulator spokeswoman, the automobile builder promised the change after meeting with officials. There was no word on when the update would be available, but it’s safe to assume you’ll have to wait for future gaming sessions.
Despite the update, the representative stressed that the investigation would continue. The NHTSA emphasized that the Vehicle Safety Act prohibits companies from selling vehicles that pose significant safety risks, such as distracted driving.
The investigation covers approximately 580,000 Tesla EVs manufactured between 2017 and 2022.
The feature change, on the other hand, is not surprising. Inaction may exacerbate the consequences if the NHTSA determines Tesla was negligent. There’s also the issue of competitive pressure to consider.

Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz recently corrected an error that allowed for mid-drive video playback; it would be unfortunate if Tesla did not follow suit and go the other way round.
